Becoming Marketable
I think it’s important to constantly invest in your professional growth and take on new challenges. Throughout my career, I’ve been slightly more focused on the communications side, so I thought it was time to broaden my marketing skillset. I think any designation regardless of the industry makes professionals more marketable.
Investing in Professional Growth
I was restructured out of my previous position, so I took the time off as an opportunity to invest in my professional growth. The DMSC and the Chartered Marketer program provided a great opportunity to acquire new skills, without the tastingscience.info flagyl financial burden, which would have been more challenging during this time.
Overcoming Obstacles
There’s a lot of learning condensed into a short period of time, especially since I opted to accelerate my learning versus spacing it out over the course of seven weeks. I had to take notes and monitor my pace to I ensure I was absorbing all the content. The quizzes at the end of each module helped since they provided a great recap and tested my knowledge of each area. There are also a variety of resources for additional support.
Embracing Analytics
The Chartered Marketer program tested my knowledge in areas that I lacked experience, specifically the financial side of marketing. As a communications professional, numbers are not generally my strong suit, but I found the program forced me to embrace my analytical side. It provided valuable insight on data analysis and measurement.
The Role of Marketing

Leaving the Comfort Zone
I learned that’s it’s never too late to invest in your professional growth, and so my professional goals should constantly evolve. I’ve been working in communications and marketing for 15 years now and I was very comfortable with my knowledge and skillset. In obtaining the CM designation, I realized I’m not afraid to push myself out of my comfort zone. Being comfortable is not necessarily a good thing.
Standing Out
I have learned so much from the course and truly have a newfound respect for marketing leaders and their significant role in a company achieving its business goals. I’m very optimistic that the skills I’m learning and the CM designation will help me stand out among job applicants in an incredibly competitive market.
